The countdown to the Buenos Aires derby has begun. This Sunday, starting at 3 PM, San Lorenzo will host Huracán at the Pedro Bidegain Stadium, in the first classic of the Clausura Tournament and a new edition of the world's biggest neighborhood derby. Ahead of the match, Rodrigo Auzmendi and Martín Nervo, key players from both teams, participated in the traditional press conference organized by the Professional League to build anticipation for one of the most awaited matches of the semester.

The meeting took place at the Professional League building in Puerto Madero. Auzmendi was the first to arrive at the hall. Dressed in the new retro kit of the brand that outfits the Ciclón and with a serious expression, he took a seat while waiting for the conference to begin. Just a few seconds later, Nervo entered, smiling and wearing a black Huracán polo shirt, to share the table before a room full of journalists anticipating the preview.

The azulgrana forward, who will play his first classic with the San Lorenzo jersey, did not hide his enthusiasm for what's to come. "Personally, I'm very happy, very eager because it will be my first classic with this jersey".

He also described how the squad is experiencing the week: "The group is very focused, knowing what's at stake and that we will have the support of our fans, which is very important to us. They deserve some joy, and we also need it after some tough blows," he expressed.

Rodrigo Auzmendi, el goleador del Ciclón.Rodrigo Auzmendi, the Ciclón's goalscorer.

Furthermore, he explained that the team continues to adapt to Néstor Gorosito's ideas. "Every process takes time. We've embraced Pipo's ideas and little by little we're adjusting to what he's looking for. I'm really looking forward to playing the classic because it's a special match," he affirmed.

Auzmendi also revealed the message the coach conveyed to them during the week. "Pipo knows perfectly what these matches mean. His message was clear: classics are played differently and every ball is played to the death. The guys understood the message and we are very motivated," he recounted.

With experience in these types of matches during his time in Honduras, the attacker emphasized that the preparation changes completely. "The week is different, the training is different, and the whole atmosphere is too. We know what's at stake and we need that emotional boost. People experience it differently, and that's noticeable. We have to be together and focused to make a good impression", he stated.

He also highlighted the support of San Lorenzo fans. "The fans are amazing. Let's hope good times come because they supported us through the bad", he acknowledged.

On Huracán's side, Martín Nervo made it clear that, regardless of each team's current form, these types of matches always have a different logic. "We're doing well, the first few matches flew by, and now we have the classic. It's one of the nicest matches of the year to play. The group is doing very well and is happy. We've been doing things well and that gives us peace of mind for Sunday," he noted.

Martín Nervo, el experimentado del Globo.Martín Nervo, the Globo's veteran.

The experienced defender insisted that " No matter how the team is doing, classics are a special match" and explained that a victory can represent a significant boost for the squad. "Winning a classic always gives you a push, although it doesn't define how the tournament ends either," he analyzed.

Nervo also spoke about the role of veteran players with younger footballers. "The truth is we have many young players in the squad and obviously they already know what it's like to play the classic because they played it in the youth categories. But playing a classic with a full stadium, whether at home or away, is different," he explained.

Asked about Huracán's winless streak at Pedro Bidegain since 2001, the captain assured that it does not represent pressure. "We know that statistic and we use it as extra motivation, not as a burden. We want to break that barrier and win on Sunday," he affirmed.

After just over twenty minutes of conference and after answering the last question, both footballers showed a moment of affection and mutual respect. Auzmendi and Nervo got up from their seats, hugged, exchanged a brief greeting and posed together for the cameras, making it clear that they are not enemies, but rivals, and that Sunday's scenario is just a football match.

El abrazo entre los jugadoresThe embrace between the players

However, once the protocol photos were finished, there was no interaction between them off-camera or in the entrance hallway. The San Lorenzo forward was the first to leave the hall, greeting the journalists present, while moments later Nervo did the same before leaving the Professional League building. Beyond the cordial gesture in front of the cameras, each went their separate way once the conference concluded.
