Facundo Medina, runner-up in the 2026 World Cup with the Argentine National Team, shared an unusual anecdote he recently experienced during his vacation days in the country after the tournament: he took his vehicle to a tire shop, the tire repairman didn't recognize him and, clinging to the conspiracy theories that emerged after the defeat against Spain, told him that the Scaloneta players had given away the final!

"The tire repairman told me 'you're traitors to the homeland'," Medina began narrating, in dialogue with the program Todo por la misma, which covers football and cumbia music. And then, they showed the tire repairman's testimony.

"A total surprise, he came here to my business and we didn't recognize him. We were very focused on our work. I started chatting with him, like any customer," the man narrated. In that vein, Medina said that, since he saw that he had the three stars and the World Cup on his mate, he began to talk to him about the World Cup final, indicating that, in his opinion, it had been "gifted."

"I tell him, 'well, let's see, tell me a little more. What do you think? Tell me'," Medina detailed. And the tire repairman insisted: "'For me, we gave it away (the final), we gave away the match...'"

Until at one point, a neighbor recognized the 27-year-old footballer and told the tire repairman's wife that they had "a player in the tire shop." When the man realized, he ended up getting emotional...

"The tire repairman started crying. And I said to him, 'don't cry now, don't be a sissy. We didn't give anything away, what do you think I am? We wanted to win. Now don't cry.' And I say to him, 'come here, give me a hug.' And then we hugged," said the Argentine National Team defender, who is close to becoming a reinforcement for Bayer Leverkusen.

And he finished, laughing: "It was all so he wouldn't charge me anyway. I chatted him up so he wouldn't charge me, ha."

Medina's mom had already asked him if it was true they had "given away" the final

It's not the first time Medina has been asked about conspiracy theories. In fact, he had said that even his mom asked him if it was true that they had "given away" the final, as falsely circulated on social media.

"I told her, 'come on, are you going to get into this too?' Stop messing around," he blurted out, laughing, in an interview with the program Ferné con Grego, on Telefe.

Then, he admitted that it makes no sense to think there was any kind of fix for the opponent to win the decisive match of the 2026 World Cup: "We want to win like everyone else. I would be happy. We had to lose and we have to accept it."
