Argentina must try not to lose the best coach it has ever had. The post-final context to the present is not the same.

Of course, nothing else could have been expected than what happened: the AFA Executive Committee supported the idea that Lionel Scaloni should continue as coach of the National Team. That is, to renew his contract that expires at the end of this year. A contract that the coach, minutes after losing the final and very moved by the match, did not intend to renew. That "in December I will surely cut" that he told Olé had a different emotional context than the one that will surround him to make the decision.
Now, the issue is that AFA's challenge is how to get Scaloni to stay. Because the best thing that can happen to Argentina is for him to remain as coach of the national team. There are few, but very few, people who have managed to overcome any kind of rift, who has been transversal to all colors and that construction was accompanied, no less, by titles and good play. There's more.
There's more because Scaloni managed to summarize and translate into the National Team a "modern" football without neglecting the Argentine idiosyncrasy when it comes to playing with the ball. Obviously, without Messi, without Dibu, without Cuti and all the others, the possibilities of achieving it are impossible, but many had so many stars and were not even close to achieving this identification of a team with the people. A series of semifinals, finals, Olympic laps. A search and defense of values that makes us proud. A coach who erased the discussion of whether he is Menottista or Bilardista.

Perhaps it is selfish to ask him for one more. There is no doubt that the best person for that reconfiguration and/or renewal that the National Team will need is Scaloni. Welcome are the ovations when they stepped on Ezeiza, welcome are the passionate displays of affection in his native Pujato and welcome are the signals and actions that are taken so that the best coach that the sky blue and white has had gets into 2030 mode.
