The terrifying sequence was captured on a cell phone video by a fan who was on the side of the field.

Local police sources confirmed that the lightning struck during one of the Golok FA Cup matches of the Thai third division. It occurred at Santipap Stadium, located in the municipality of Su-ngai Kolok, southern Thailand.

The incident took place during injury time, when a sudden electrical storm broke out around the stadium.

Bernama, police chief Thun Sirikhunt reported that the 24-year-old young footballer could not withstand the high voltage received from the lightning discharge and despite the efforts of emergency medical teams who performed CPR to save him, they were unsuccessful, as confirmed by the British newspaper The Independent.

The video filmed by one of the fans is chilling. It clearly shows when the lightning strikes the ground and impacts the field of play. The impact is so great that the fan lowers his cell phone for a second, a kind of explosion is heard, and then he focuses back on what was happening on the field. And there you see several of Awae's teammates running to try to revive him.

The video also shows other footballers lying on the ground. It's a desperate moment. Awae's teammates turned him face up and tried to revive him without success.
